The xx start work on their second studio album!

The xx have revealed that they have started work on their second studio album.

The band, who won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their self-titled debut album in 2010, had previously cast doubt on whether they would even record a second album, but have now confirmed that they are working on record number two.

The xx posted news of their second album on a newly set up blog xx-xx.co.uk on which they will also post regular updates on the progress of the album's creation.

The band wrote: "We have started recording our second album! We have also started this blog where we will post our inspirations and pictures and favourite songs."

Since the band completed promotional duties for their debut LP, percussion maker Jamie Smith has busied himself with production and remixing, including reworking recently deceased rapper Gil-Scott Heron's final album 'I'm New Here' and creating remixes for the likes of Radiohead, Florence And The Machine and Adele.
